Surprisingly, this little carbine shoots quite accurately and holds about a 5-6 inch grouping at 100+yds and about 3-4 inches at 60-70 yards, even though it has had two “hung slug” rings in the bore and some scattered moderate pitting! This “trial shoot” was just done by a friend of mine using “cowboy action” reloads, and both he and I were not expecting this carbine to be anywhere NEAR that accurate! The exterior is smooth mottled grey brown metal, no pitting, good markings and barrel address, and a tight action. The wood is average with the exception that it does have two inserts on the center of both sides of the stock. It has no slivers of mention and no cracks, just the average dents and scratches from 100+ years of life. The rear barrel sight is missing the elevation staff, but was easily usable at the yardages noted above. Tough to find a 44/40 carbine in ANY condition as they are quite popular amongst the Cowboy Re-inactor shooters. G-VG $1195 SOLD Antique: Yes |
