Description:
Excellent Russell, Green River Works, saw toothed top knife with original exc. leather sheath.  9 inches overall, 4-3/4 inch saw tooth on the top blade with a very sharp clipped point at the end.  4-1/2 inch handle is very dark brown hardwood (black walnut?) with high raised triangular pattern (very like the “checked ebony” handles shown on Russell knives in Levine 5th ed. P. 347, but although dark, the handles on this one appear to be dark brown).  There is a hole at the top of the handle for attachment purposes.  German silver bolster 5/8 inch long.  Blade marked RUSSELL (in larger letters)/GREEN RIVER WORKS (in smaller letters) on obverse side.  The handle has two iron pins.  The sheath is clearly original to the knife and in excellent, near new condition.  It holds all but 1-1/4 inch of the knife in the Indian manner (see Levine 5th Ed. P. 346), and is russet colored leather with a high shine.  Double stitched in the front, it has two slits for a belt to pass through on the back side.  Front has two decorative lines next to the seam.  Condition is the best I have seen.  Blade appears unsharpened.  Per Levine these knives were made ca 1890s when Americans suddenly took to the outdoors after a generation or two of living in town. Shipping $8.00
