Description:
Browning Diana Grade 12g sn 514xxS6, manufactured in Belgium during 1965-66. This is a hunting gun with extra target barrel set. Excellent original condition, with barrel release lever to the right and tight break open action. A nice example of Browning quality and attention to detail during the 1960s.
The engraving is by FN engraver J. Vonderspiegel, signed on the right receiver side. The engraving is deep cut and highly detailed with effective shading. The barrel and receiver metal have the original factory finish, and in 99% condition. Trigger gold plating is excellent. Screw slots are very good. Bores are like new. "Y shaped" upper tang. Long trigger guard tang, original to the gun. The barrels are marked for the Abercrombie and Fitch store. The target barrels have minor slide marks in front of the forearm. The hunting barrels appear to have little, if any use.
The wood finish is factory original, also 99% condition, with expected very small random impressions in the varnish. Field style forearms. Well figured fiddleback and marbled wood grain throughout; excellent checkering. The forearms and stock match well in color. LOP is 14 1/4", with hard Browning buttplate. Standard field shotgun drop at comb and heel measurements, 1 5/8" and 2 1/2".
28" barrels choked Modified and Full, stamped correctly. Additional 26.5" barrel set stamped skeet. Polished barrel breech surfaces and muzzle face. Period correct Hartmann luggage case in excellent condition with manual. Browning historical letter from Glen Jensen also included, stating the gun was shipped to the A&F store on Madison Avenue, New York City. Records from Griffin and Howe show the gun was transferred to a new store A&F opened in Bal Harbor Florida, where it was sold retail.
