Here is a rare Colt 1905 45 ACP automatic pistol. It was of course the ‘grandfather’ of the venerable popular 1911 .45 acp. Very few have survived in any kind of decent condition today. It is especially hard to find one with pristine bore – or even one that : “ SHOULD CLEAN UP WITH A GOOD SCRUBBING”. That misleading nonsense translated – means: The bore is somewhat iffy and it is NEVER EVER going to look any better. It is in a nicked finish what to my knowledge was never an original optional finish. It is clean inside and out WITH ABSOLUTELY no FLAKING OF THE NICKEL at all. It is very difficult to photograph bright nickel finishes but the pictures are pretty accurate. The action is tight and crisp and the barrel ‘toggle’ FIT IS still tight and wobble free. It is the late middle production with a 42XX S#. The grips are nice with no cracks or visible wear. The slide markings are sharp and legible showing some little wear on left side. The really good feature is the bore. It is about perfect – bright and strong ( even brand new 1905s had very shallow land profiles) It come with a quality attractive hardwood fitted case with a bottom drawer for ammo or accessories. It does come with 2 mags as well as apx 40 rounds of custom loaded 45 ACP ammo that is safe to use. Please note that these Colts were NOT designed for modern more powerful 45 ACP loadings. To do so could eventually badly damage the slide or worse. An all original finish 1905 in very very high COLLECTOR condition today would bring $8-10,000 dollars. 3-4 years back - I sold a 95%+ original model in a fitted case for $7500 the first day it was advertised – and a ‘dollar’ was worth at least 20-30 % more at the time.
