Description:
HACKER MARTIN PRESENTATION POWDER HORN AND HUNTING BAG CIRCA 1950’S. 13” horn and 11”x 9” embossed leather hunting bag. Horn inscribed “LEONARD A. MEADOWS/PRESENTED BYE HIS FRIEND HACKER MARTIN”. With the poetic inscriptions “NOW SOME FOLKS LIKE TO HUNT THE DEER/AND SOME MAY LOVE THE FAWN/BUT I WANT A DEAR TO LOVE ME HEAR/AND MOURN ME WHEN I’ME GONE” and “POWDER WITH MY BROTHER BALL/HERO LIKE DO CONQUER ALL” as well as “STEAL NOT THIS HORN”. Wonderful bag that may date earlier. Fine condition for horn and bag. Hacker Martin made rifles and horns in Tennessee and Virginia and is probably the best known of the late pre- contemporary makers. Leonard A. Meadows was also a longrifle maker of the 1950’s and 1960’s from West Virginia.
