Description:
RARE NEW ENGLAND 18TH CENTURY CLUB-BUTT DOGLOCK MUSKET. 57” o/a with 39” round smoothbore .75 caliber barrel having Birmingham proofs at the left breech. Front and rear barrel sights added in the American manner. Walnut full length stock with pronounced club-butt stock in the New England manner. Handmade brass trigger guard and mounts in the English style but of American manufacture. Under size butt plate from an early musket added during the period of use. Unmarked flint dog catch lock with light border decoration original to the period or possibly earlier but of Continental origin. This appears to have been recycled for use on this musket locks being a premium item in America in the 1700’s. Very good overall with lock in working order and stock with the original finish.
