Welcome! This listing is for a Winchester Model 63 Super Speed and Super-X .22 LR Rifle.
This Model 63 is in good condition and features a 23" blued barrel, blued receiver, walnut butt-stock and forearm, metal butt-plate, and was manufactured in the year 1955. The barrel has a few areas with some pitting and the rear sight has some discoloring beneath it. The receiver has some wear to the blued finish and some pitting on the left side. There is one dime size blemish on the left side of the butt-stock behind the receiver. All of the mechanics appear to be in sound condition and fully functional.
In 1933, Winchester introduced the Model 63 semi-auto rifle to take the place of the Model 1903. This replacement was necessitated by the problem of having to have a special .22 caliber cartridge to achieve proper blow-back of the bolt in the Model 1903. The Model 63 was chambered for the newly developed .22 LR cartridge, and this solved the blow-back problem with a universally available ammunition. The Model 63 was manufactured from 1933 through 1958 with approximately 175,000 guns produced during that period. In the first four years guns were made with a barrel length of 20" (up to serial number 9,800), and was then changed to 23" for the remainder of the production. All Model 63 guns had a plain walnut forearm and pistol-grip stock, the latter with a metal butt plate. The loading port was on the side of the stock and the magazine was accessed through the rear of the butt. Winchester added grooved receivers on the last 10,000 Model 63's that they produced, in order to assist with scope mounting.
