Description:
SOLD...Antique 1873 Winchester 44-40 round barrel with good bore. Here is a bit better than average and very honest untouched 1873 Winchester rifle. Has the standard 24 round barrel. 44-40 caliber. S/N 156828 and made in 1884. It has a good shootable bore. It shows good rifling with the normal roughness but NO rings or bulges and NO big pits or craters. The mechanics are excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects perfectly with NO backed out primers and NO bulged cases. Hammer notches are both perfect with strong springs throughout. The gun does show some traces of  blue in the protected areas on the bottom of the  barrel and the top areas of the mag tube where protected. Also some along the barrel around the forearm. It has traces of blue on the receiver around the side plates and other protected areas. Also some blue on the lower tang. The balance of the metal is a smooth medium brown patina that has never been cleaned on or messed with. No pitting on the gun anywhere. The markings are all excellent. including the 44 CAL on the brass carrier. Has the original front and rear sights never filed on or messed with. Still retains the original dust cover that is still tight !!! It also retracts with the lever throw perfectly.  The forearm is excellent with NO splits or cracks and fits tight and prowd to the metal. Still has great color and not all oil soaked. The butt stock is very nice as well. It does however show a tight grain split at the upper tang and one at the toe{see photos}. They are both solid and probably not going to go anywhere. This is just what happens when the wood starts to dry out. The butt stock still fits tight and prowd to the metal weith no other issues. It still has great color and not oil soaked as many are that you will see. None of the wood has ever been sanded or cleaed on and is very nice for a fairly early 3rd model. The screw heads are all still pretty nice and not all burred up from tinkering. All in all a very nice and very honest ole 1873 in the right caliber with a good shootable bore that functions perfectly. I test fire all of my long guns and this one is ready to go. Not responcible for anyone not knowing the proper loading and shooting of any antique firearm. Please know what you are doing when loading shooting these old guns. They are not toys. Getting harder to find 73's that have not been messed with and butchered. Here is a nice one at a reasonable price. $50 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. I want happy customers. Please take a minute to see my other items for sale while you are here.
