Description:
Serial #3433c, 9mm Para., 5” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is an “ac-45” coded pistol within the “c” block (numbered above 2000c) and was originally assembled from mismatched parts. The metal retains 85-90% of the original blue with gray fading at the muzzle, as well as along the high edges and projections of the frame, barrel, and slide. Further gray fading occurs on the gripstrap. The extractor, slide cover, and slide lever retain a commensurate amount of their original dark gray phosphate finish with some silvering along the top edge of the slide latch. The hammer and locking block are finished bright and have the very sharp edges characteristic of late war production. The rare and desirable “35*” marking is present on the left side of the frame just above the serial number and trigger. Additionally, the brown phenolic resin grips are in excellent condition with a few very minor handling marks on either panel. The pistol comes with a single original “jvd” coded magazine, a post-war Walther banner marked magazine, and is housed in a fine, 1944 dated soft-sided holster that has the “gxy” code between the belt loops. The interior of the holster is further marked with the name and service number of the GI that liberated it in ink on the inside of the cover flap (Sgt. Tony V. Allaria of Edwardsville, IL. His Edwardsville High School Class of 1936 yearbook photo and his enlistment data are also included). These late war, “35*” marked P.38s are highly valued and much sought after examples of late war German weaponry and this example is in fine-excellent condition. {Refs. “Axis Pistols” by Jan C.
