Description:
           M14,   Semi-Auto Only, 7.62 NATO     S/N   FULTON ARMORY 00445

Originally a Vietnam War era Army sniper rifle/ Camp Perry competition rifle.

For the advanced US martial arms collector this is as close to an original M14/M21 as one can get. A handsome rifle.

Army and Marine units in Vietnam were dissatisfied with the performance of  WW 2 vintage  sniper rifles - the M1C and  M1D  - largely because of the poor quality and low power of the scopes themselves. This prompted considerable work by Army specialists to find an improved rifle and scope combination. In the end, this was judged to be the newly-designed ART scope and specially modified M14 rifles. The latter were assembled at Springfield from National Match (NM) parts and barrels, painstakingly "accurized" by master armorers.

This is one such rifle. The rifles were also used at the Camp Perry National Matches in the early and mid-1960’s.  NM rifles were the best that Springfield could make, and were identified as “M21” rifles.

To comply with National Firearms Act, the original select fire receiver was destroyed, leaving an M14/M21 “parts kit.” A Fulton Armory semi-auto ONLY receiver was installed - which includes a non-functioning “selector switch.”   Because this was one of the weapons prepared for sniper use AND the Camp Perry Matches, the Fulton receiver chosen is marked M21. All parts (except the Receiver and some small parts associated with it) are original GI National Match. The rifle was completely overhauled, and certain worn NM parts were replaced with original GI NM parts. (SEE: invoice from Fulton Armory.) The rifle was NOT re-Parkerized, and metal condition is outstanding.

In addition, this rifle has been modified to be California Legal: a specially modified 20 round M14 magazine accepting 10 rounds only was procured and provision made to install it. As part of making it “CA legal”  the “paddle” used to remove the standard 20 round magazines had to be removed, and once the modified CA legal magazine has been inserted it cannot be removed except by a qualified gunsmith ... it is locked into the magazine well. The rifle’s magazine can be loaded with 10 rounds (ONLY) from the top of the receiver.

The barrel is the original Springfield Armory in excellent condition. It has NOT been chrome plated (as most M14 barrels were) as it was thought by Springfield that the chrome plating would negatively affect accuracy. This is correct for the M21 series.

An unusual left-over from the M14 era with a completely legal receiver and a CA compliant 10 round magazine. It is absolutely superior to the “M1A” rifles currently on the market.

The Parkerizing is Excellent, as is the GI stock. It has the GI black plastic upper hand guard.  The walnut stock is the original GI issue with the US “acceptance stamp” and “P”. It is in excellent Plus condition, and has “nice” (if somewhat bland) wood.

Comes with: a) The Fulton Armory invoice; b) the original issue GI cleaning rod, combination tool, brushes and oiler .... all for the butt stock; and c) an M14 history/disassembly book by Scott Duff. Additional photos are available. All NFA Rules apply. C&R okay, or must be sent to your FFL dealer. Three day inspection, with buyer paying return shipping.

Very fairly priced at $3,400.
