Description:
.577 Snider, 30 1/2” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a sergeants model short rifle conversion with “B.S.A.Co./1866” dated lock, extensive military acceptance markings, and double arrow deaccession marks. The metal has an overall mellow plum-brown patina mixing with a pleasant pewter gray and there is silvering at the muzzle and along some of the exposed edges and projections. The stock has an old armory added varnish over minor handling marks and small surface blemishes with unit marks on the left of the butt: “A.R. (lined out)”; and “D.C. (no diamond)/H.G.A./306” indicating the rifle was initially issued to either the Algonquin Regiment or, more likely, the Annapolis Regiment before reissue to the Halifax Garrison Artillery. The B.S.A. garter stamp and double arrows are likewise crisp and clear. Included with the rifle are chain and snap cap with rough but intact leather pad and an original ramrod. The leaf sight, graduated to 1000 yards, and a bayonet lug on the right side are the remaining features. The rifle has all steel furniture and is in very good-near fine condition; a great example of a Canadian Snider. Antique
