Step back in time with this superb example of pre-WWI German technology and of the craftsmanship of the shotgun manufacturers of Suhl. The Circassian walnut, deep engraving, wings on the action, Greener cross-bolt, light-weight Krupp steel barrels, and perfect balance are all signs of its quality. So too is the box lock action itself, its hand-fitted parts being almost pristine after a hundred years. Besides being beautiful, the handling and shooting qualities of this 6 lb-4 oz 12-gauge shotgun make this a great upland game gun.
The gun has extensive engraving of traditional hunting scenes. The receiver and forearm metal have an appropriate and pleasing patina. The lettering and engraving on the barrels is crisp, and the bores are bright. The 29.5” nitro-proofed Krupp steel barrels are flawless, as refinished using the Belgian blue process, and are choked Improved Cylinder/Improved Modified (.010/.025). The chambers are 2-3/4” with lengthened forcing cones. The wall thickness for the right barrel (top/side/bottom) at 9” from muzzle is 021/.022/.021 and at the middle of the barrel is .027/.029/.027; the left barrel is .034/.036/.034 and .036/.036/.034, respectively. The wood is reconditioned to restore natural oils and better preserve the gun for another century of use. The drop at the comb is 1-1/2” and at the heel 2-3/4”. Length of pull is 14-1/2” to the end of a 3/4 inch pad. The gun locks up tight and on face; the top lever returns to the right of center. The serial number, 13335, matches on all parts.
The inspection period is 7 days from receipt by buyer. Price does not include shipping paid by the buyer. Seller has fired this shotgun multiple times using standard factory 2-3/4” target loads. However, as for any vintage shotgun, it is recommended that the new owner have it inspected by a professional gunsmith before firing. The gun carries a 30-day warrantee, during which the seller will have any mechanical problems documented by a professional gunsmith repaired or accept the return of the gun and refund the price of the gun and the return shipping cost.
