Description:
Colt New Police Revolver
  • .32 caliber black powder
  • These revolvers were ordered personally by Teddy Roosevelt for the NYPD when he was the president of the board of commissioners from 1895-1897
  • This is the time when Roosevelt was cleaning up the NYPD and hired 1600 officers based only on their qualifications and weeded out bad officers
  • He purchased 4500 of these revolvers and had "New York Police" engraved on the backstrap of each
  • He also had the badge number of the officer who carried it engraved on the butt. This one is "S.20"
  • Once officers had these revolvers he instituted marksmanship training and transformed the NYPD 
  • Double action
  • Original grips with a piece missing on the right side rear at butt/backstrap
  • Colt New Police 32 marked on barrel which is 4"
  • "Colts New Police" around rampant colt on side of frame
  • All original
  • Tremendous amount of original blue remains
  • Made in 1897
