COLT 1847 WALKER COMMEMORATIVE 44 BP. A reproduction 1847 Colt Walker in .44 Black Powder Percussion. Commemorating Sam Houston & the Texas Sesquicentennial. The name plate attached to the inside lid of the presentation case is inscribed "The Sam Houston Pistol, Texas Sesquicentennial, Authorized by United States Historical Society". This reproduction pistol is a modern copy of the famed Colt Walker, sometimes referred to as “horse pistol”, given the large size, hefty weight and carried in a saddle mounted holster. These pistols/revolvers were generally too big and heavy to carry on the hip! They were also referred to as “hog leg” or “smoke wagon”. This beautiful reproduction Walker Colt is enhanced with gold ornamental Texas motifs, including Texas Ranger Captain Samuel Hamilton Walker (who the pistol was named after), San Jacinto, the Alamo and other Lone Star state symbols. The .44 caliber pistol has a 6 chamber cylinder and a 9” barrel and includes a pair of walnut grips with a Sam Houston gold medallion. The pistol is numbered 407, which is also the serial number. The pistol includes a Sam Houston Presentation Case made of walnut, leather and brass hardware with a likeness in gold of Sam Houston, flags, flintlock rifles and Texas state seal in the leather on the top lid. The inside is compartmentalized for the reproduction Colt pistol and brass powder flask, a percussion cap tin with engraving of the state of Texas and the Lone Star, a combination cased colored iron nipple wrench/screwdriver, a brass and cased colored iron bullet mold, and two of the compartments, in the corners, have lids covering .44 caliber lead balls and a pair of white gloves. The pistol is pre-owned but in unfired, brand new condition save for two dings in the right grip panel. All accessories are in brand new condition. The exterior of the presentation case has mars and scratches and a couple of short cracks in the wood's lid.
