#97774, Webley & Scott Ltd., 55 Victoria Street, London, England: A 12 Bore Webley & Scott Ltd. Best Quality Boxlock Ejector Made 1925 with a Screw Grip action body, 30" Dovetail Lump Barrels with a rib extension third bite at .734 .005 & .037" (Skt.I & Full), 2 3/4" chambers, Wall thickness on the right at .031" & .030" on the left, Birmingham Nitro proved at 1 1/8 ounce, Double triggers, Bushed strikers, Splinter forend with an Anson release, Carved shoulders at the head of the forend, Excellent wood, Straight hand stock at 14 1/2 x 1 1/2 x 2 1/2" over a 1 3/16" Silvers pad, Neutral stock, 6 lbs. 9 oz., 95% coverage of very sharp small scroll engraving that is Classic Pre-War cut, The balls of the action are deeply carved with oak leaves, It is engraved under the top lever, The top lever is completely engraved and it is nicely profiled, This gun retains 90% original bright and vivid case colors, The original barrel blue is a 96%, The stock remains at 95%, The checkering at 98%, The floorplate and trigger guard have been reblacked, The piece is tight on the face, The bores are in excellent condition, The barrels ring with nice chime, The wood remains strong & solid in every respect. This is one doggone nice Pre-War British boxlock that has been very well kept with obvious good custodians. I can assure you they didn't make them like this after the second war. ////////////////////////////// Webley & Scott and W & C Scott is one of the best known names in the British sporting gun trade. They made a lot of guns but also produced some very high quality pieces. They provided a lot of semi-finished and finished guns to nearly everyone in the trade. P. (Philip) Webley set up shop in 1838 and William Scott had started in 1834, in 1897 they joined and became Webley & Scott. Under that name they made guns until 1979 and then it again became W & C Scott. In 1985 Holland & Holland acquired the name and I believe the last Scott made was in 1991. Anyone who has shot or hunted with an English boxlock, regardless of the name on the gun, most likely has shot a Webley rifle or smoothbore. This gun has the 55 Victoria Street address and they moved there in 1921 and stayed at that address until 1929. This piece is a Golden Era classic British boxlock.
