They made a lot of guns but also produced some very high quality pieces. They provided a lot of semi-finished and finished guns to nearly everyone in the trade. P. (Philip) Webley set up shop in 1838 and William Scott had started in 1834, in 1897 they joined and became Webley & Scott. Under that name they made guns until 1979 and then it again became W & C Scott. In 1985 Holland & Holland acquired the name and I believe the last Scott made was in 1991. Anyone who has shot or hunted with an English boxlock, regardless of the name on the gun, most likely has shot a Webley rifle or smoothbore. This gun has the 55 Victoria Street address and they moved there in 1921 and stayed at that address until 1929. This piece is a Golden Era classic British boxlock.
