Description:
French M1766 Charleville Flintlock Infantry Musket, serial # None, cal. 69 caliber smooth bore, with a 42 1/4” barrel that turned to brown patina. This musket retains all three barrel bands (two keepers are missing) and both sling swivels, the buttplate is heavily rusted, comes with its original iron ramrod that's missing a few inches at the end. The left side of the buttstock as seen in the photo looks as if a beaver chewed on it, the remainder of the stock appears solid. The overall length on this musket from buttplate to barrel end is 65 inches. Note: This is probably one of the muskets that came from France to aid in the America's Revolutionary War and many served into the War of 1812 just wish this one could talk. This musket functions flawlessly, sparks nicely when trigger is pulled and the flint on the hammer hits the striker plate but considering its age I don't recommend shooting it. The overall condition as photographed and described is fair plus - good. Inv.: # 22-168
