Description:
After the Civil War, most Sharps Carbines were converted to the new metallic cartridges in .50-70 Government. This was done by boring and sleeving the barrel with a three groove tube. Many of these conversions survive today. One of the interesting quirks is that the center fire cartridge conversions shot high because the sights were not regulatedfor the .50-70. Thus, a lot of shooters modified the front blade to bring the point of impact closer to the aiming point. This specimen shows that front sight modification.
