Description:

Mauser 1896 “Red Nine” 9mm caliber pistol. “Red Nine” with fixed sight and 4” barrel to comply with the Treaty of Versailles in 1920. These were converted from standard Red Nines. This example is unusual in that. All numbers match except barrel extension which has the mis match numbers obliterated by “X-ing” out the number and stamping in the matching number. Some 1920 Versailles Treaty guns have police issue marks and often marked 1920. This gun has neither. In our opinion this “Re-matched” number on the left chamber flat is an early arsenal job of making gun “all matching” no attempt has been made at fakery. The marking is in fact very well done. No police or 1920marks taken together with the barrel mark leads us to believe this was an early ""Red Nine"" 1920 pistol. The grips are very good plus, the gun has approximately 90% blue. Action works perfectly bore is fair with good rifling and dark in the grooves. Unusual variation.
