Description:
This is an original Winchester 44-40 3rd model 1873 rifle with classic cowboy octagon barrel and crescent butt. The furniture has much of the original finish AND PERFECT FIT with the only real flaw being a hairline crack on the top of the right side of the forward hand guard near the receiver. It has standard factory sights and the action is snappy and crisp showing little hard use and no appreciable wear. The bore is strong and clean with no frosting or worn lands and only slight flaws that are too slight to effect accuracy - A GOOD 9+. There is still quite a bit of original blue – some of which is thinning and fading somewhat. The barrel itself, shows pretty much all shiny original blue. I would say 60 - -65% for the overall gun. Blue book shows $4300 at 50% and $4,900 at 60%. I am going to let this piece go for a bargain price only because of many dings on the receiver at top right next to barrel and on the barrel itself near the receiver. There ARE NOT sanded pit areas but just physical hits to the metal that are only cosmetic but are very visible up close. This is an EXCELLENT BUY and my last 44-40 1873.
