Description: SW#2701841, 30-30 Win, 20 inch barrel, Bright excellent bore. This 1964 MFG carbine has some very interesting features. The frame appears to be made of Post 64 "Mystery Metal", yet the front is rebated for the forearm and the cartridge guide rails are screwed on from inside to out. These Pre 64 features are mixed with a stamped cartridge lifter, post 64 style 2 piece flat mainspring with no stirrup, and visible carrier spring screw ends. Barrel markings are correct for this time frame. Forestock is a post 64 style without the projections to fit into the forend In Winchester model 94, author R.C. Renneberg discusses the change over from second type (Pre 64) to third type (Post 64) receivers on pages 35 and 36. He indicates that specimens between the high 2,590,000 S and low 2,700,000s are unknown. In this book no mention is made of any model 94 with these combined features. Receiver has lost almost all finish to flaking with a brown patina developing. A small grind is visible on receiver bottom near serial number. The other metal surfaces retain 97% blue with a few marks from use. The flat checkered steel buttplate shows a few spots of oxidation . Wood is in excellent sound condition with worn varnish on forend by receiver from carrying. Wood shows scattered dings and marks from hunting use. The front sight hood is missing. This is a most interesting and unusual carbine with mixed Pre and post 64 features. We do not recall seeing another in this exact configurations M 94 Collection.
