Description:
Serial #13387, 12 ga., 30” barrel with a very good bore that has some minor freckling, heaviest towards the muzzle. This was the second incarnation of Spencer's innovative slide-action, repeating shotgun made by the famous Francis Bannerman & Son firm of New York after their acquisition of the manufacturing rights. The metal has an overall dull gray patina throughout but the twist pattern along the barrel is still fairly strong and visible and the frame has small scattered spots of freckling and mottled plum-brown here and there. The mechanism is still tight and fully functional while the deeply grooved foregrip has light-moderate handling marks and blemishes with hints of the original checkering still visible. The buttstock with uncheckered, rounded pistol grip is in matching condition with scattered light handling marks as well as a large but stable crack running through the wood to the right of the top tang. These are very interesting American shotguns, rather ahead of their time when they went into production, but were superseded by competing designs. This example is in good plus-near very good condition and would make a great addition to a collection. FFL & C&R
