U.S. AND FLAMING BOMB MARKED 1897 RIOT GUN, 12 GA., #722XXX, TAKEDOWN WITH MATCHING NUMBERS, has the U.S. and flaming bomb marking on the left side of the receiver just above the forward part of the trigger guard and the flaming bomb on the top of the barrel ahead of the Winchester proof mark, the stock has the "AA" cartouche which I believe stands for Augusta Arsenal who probably took this one in at some point for cleaning/refurbishing for re-issue in World War II, has the scarce military style rear sling swivel inletted with two screws and the front swivel in the magazine retaining band, still in desirable original factory blue (as opposed to later Parkerizing done by arsenals), retains good receiver blue on the sides & top with heavy silvered edge wear and some thinning, fine thinning barrel blue, exc. forend, exc. early style thin wrist/high comb butt stock with only the beginning of a typical age crack coming back from the receiver- minor, exc. Winchester embossed hard rubber butt plate, tight action, bright bore, 20" barrel marked "CYL" as it should, either a late W.W. I issue or an early "inter-war" issue, has an excellent "R.I.A. 1917" marked sling, very difficult to find these days especially not Parkerized
