Rare M1873 Winchester Trapper Saddle Ring Carbine with 15" Barrel and Factory Special Order Rifle Butt, .44-40 WCF, mfg. ca. 1880's. This gun has been in our private collection for many years and the previous owner told us the gun was sourced in South America by George Madis in 1960. Most of these short Winchesters were exported to Mexico and South America where they saw hard, extensive use such as this gun did. The serial number has been partially worn away so we were never able to letter the gun but we absolutely 100% guarantee it to be an original and authentic Trapper. The metal has a dark gray patina showing much wear with a mottled finish from years of exposure to the elements. The wood has an untouched, original worn finish and features a correct short forearm which measures just over 7 3/4" long. There is an old faint 2" age check behind the left rear corner of the upper tang with some notable wear around the toe of the buttstock. The forearm has a 2" crack at the right rear side, with an old worn gouge behind the barrel band on the left side. There are two old worn slivers missing forward of the barrel band along the bottom. Matching part number "1999" can be seen upon disassembly on the buttplate, buttstock, and lower tang. Original saddle ring, lever & lever lock down, trigger, hammer, barrel bands, flip up carbine rear sight and post front sight. The barrel address is located on top of the barrel forward of the barrel band. It is very faint but partially legible. The action is tight and functions very well, and the bore is surprisingly good with strong rifling and only light blackpowder frosting. I think this gun was carried much more than it was actually fired. We've owned many Trappers over the years but this was always our favorite. It's just a totally original and honest gun that could tell one hell of a story if it could talk! No FFL required on pre-1899 firearms. No sales of modern firearms or antique firearms that can fire modern ammunition to the state of California or California residents. No sales of modern firearms or antique firearms that can fire modern ammunition to any of the five counties of New York City or their residents.
