Description:
This was the Big Dog of the Colt Lightning Slide Action family of rifles. This one is in cal 38-56-255. The big frame Colts were a pretty impressive rifle, they have quite a bit of mass to them. This one has a 28 inch round bbl, which still retains most of it's aging, thinning blue. Equipped with a Rocky Mountain blade style front with a replacement blade. Rear sight has had a little bit of work done to it, and exhibits some scratches and dings. Inside is a very good bore, no real pitting just some light roughness, a good cleaning could take care of a good portion of that.?. The receiver still has quite a bit of the deep, lustrous, Colt blue. Of course there is some light flaking and scratches but overall it's a pretty decent blue. This is an early gun just under 5k range. Forearm wood is very good. Buttstock is also in good condition, but there is a chip out on the top corner on the right hand side and a very small one on the left hand side. A crack is coming off both upper and lower tangs. Wood is solid to the gun. If you want a big caliber antique rifle other than a Winchester, this Colt is a good option.
