Description:
SOLD.
Listed is a 12 gauge B Grade “FOX GUN CO. BALTO. MD. U.S.A.” with serial number 438.

It is the hard to find B grade with 30 inch Damascus barrels choked Full and Full (the lower A grade Baltimore Fox’s have twist steel barrels).  Barrels measure 0.690 inches at the muzzle of each barrel.  Choke starts back into bore 3 ¼ inches from the muzzle.  (Consistent with what research has found with those early Baltimore Fox’s, the bores are tighter than the standard 0.729 inches. The bore diameter is equivalent to about an IC 0.720” choke and the chamber lengths measure 3 ¼ inches.)

Decent original gun with very little original finish.  No visible case color on the frame and the damascus pattern on the barrels are pretty thin.  Wood finish about gone with the checkering worn pretty smooth.  No cracks or splits in the wood.

Half pistol grip stock measures 13 ¾ inches to the original unmarked butt plate, drop at comb is 1 5/8 inches and drop at heel is 2 ¾ inches. Gun weighs 7 ¾ pounds.

Bores are pretty nice.  No dents. Tight action that locks up tight with no wiggle when the action is open.  Gun functions just fine.

The Baltimore Fox’s are pretty uncommon and were Ansley Fox’s first attempt at making double barrel shotguns before making the move to the better known A. H. Fox Gun Company in Philadelphia.

Patent date on the water table is “6 – 30 – 96” but I’m not sure if these FOX BALTO guns were made prior to December 31, 1898 and are considered antiques by the BATFE.  If not an antique, has to be shipped to an FFL or C&R.

Price is $600.00 plus actual shipping with three day non shooting inspection.
