REMINGTON MODEL 40X MARK PENROD CUSTOM FULL STOCK 22 LR ... 18” Mark Penrod match barrel with a bright excellent bore.
What an exceptional little rifle. The work of Mr. Penrod is fast approaching “legendary” status and is renown not only for its accuracy but its beauty as well. His work is second-to-none in the business and about as top-notch as it gets.
The metal surfaces retain about 99% top-quality maker blue, the only true loss being a tiny abrasion on the floorplate and bow of the guard. The action was squared and trued and the match barrel fitted by Mr. Penrod, being marked on the left side near the breech “J.M. Penrod”.
The gun is stocked Mannlicher-style, fullstock in a lovely grade of American black walnut. The stock itself rates excellent and shows a lovely satin finish with checkered panels at the pistolgrip and forearm. It is classic style without cheekpiece and features an ebony gripcap and forend tip and a lovely smooth steel buttplate with widows peak. There is some really lovely grain figure on left and right side of the butt and the pistolgrip features a very nice palm swell for a right-handed shooter.
The rifle features a very nice single-loading platform, one-piece steel Blackburn-style bottom metal of blued steel, a fully adjustable Jewell trigger and the floorplate has been custom fitted by Mr. Penrod with a small cartridge receptacle that will hold 7 rounds of 22 long rifle.
Mounted to the receiver rings are steel 2-piece bases with 1” rings which support a Leupold QDMA 3x9x40 1988 - 2008 20th anniversary edition telescopic sight with dual- range-finding duplex reticle with bright excellent optics, the scope appearing as-new overall. Overall a superbly executed custom rifle which doubtless shoots even better than it looks, if that’s at all possible, and without the extended wait associated with commissioning Mr. Penrod.
