Description:
SOLD..Antique 1889 Marlin. 38-40. Octagon barrel. Here is a first year production 1889 Marlin !!!! S/N 27150 and made in 1889 !!!! It has the standard 24" octagon barrel. It is in the excellent and very accurate 38-40 caliber. Absolutely my favorite caliber for shooting. The bore is very good. Shows strong rifling with some minor roughness from black powder. NO big pits or craters and NO rinsg or bulges. It shoots just fine. The mechanics are all excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects just fine. As with all 89's the ejection is a little weak but it still kicks out the empty cases. Both hammer notches are perfect also. Most of these 89's have weak or broken hammer notches and trigger sears. These are all perfect and positive on this gun and hold firm. I have repaired many of these 89's with this very common problem but this one has not been repaired or messed with. It functions just like it is suppose to with no issues. The metal is a very pleasing smooth medium plumb brown patina that has never been cleaned on or messed with. NO pitting anywhere on the gun. All the markings are excellent. Still retains both the original front and rear sights. The wood is great on this rifle. The forearm has NO splits or cracks and just a few very minor and honest handling dings. The butt stock is excellent as well. Just a few minor dings and scratches and one tiny sliver out by the lower tang as you can see in the photos. The wood is real nice on this one and fits tight to the metal as you can see. This is a most honest and very pleasing looking ole 89. It has a better bore and much better wood than the other one I have listed and is priced the same !!!! I got a good deal on this one and just passing the savins on to the next owner. $50 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. Don't miss this one !!! A great price.
