Description:
SOLD

Springfield Armory M1D Garand, serial number 3290653, manufactured in November 1944. This M1D sniper rifle has an original M84 Telescopic sight and mount. Scope has clear glass and no corrosion. Barrel is Springfield dated September 1952, with a like new bore. Stock is marked "SA" and "RA", with a circle "P" in the pistol grip. Leather cheekpad marked "MRT 8-58". All parts are described below and shown in pictures. No import marks.

This rifle was purchased from the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) in 2007, original CMP certificate of authenticity is included.


Part Details 

Receiver: marked “D 28291 35” on leg, heat lot A24. Excellent condition, no pitting. The parkerized finish is original, with only the slightest wear from op rod contact. Many metal parts including the receiver are covered with dried oil residue.

Barrel: marked “S-A-9-52” in op rod slot, also marked “P” with punch mark. Bore is bright like new, rifling and crown excellent, chrome pads at gas port. External finish is in excellent condition. 

Barrel Gauge Measurements: Muzzle wear: <1, Throat erosion: 3

Telescope: M84, serial 29098. Glass clear, no internal debris, looking inside with flashlight shows no corrosion. Crosshair (post type) sharp and complete. No dents, external finish very good with only a couple of minor scratches

Telescope Mount: finish excellent, no corrosion, allen head sockets in screws sharp. Knurled knob shows no damage.

Flash Hider: marked “HIDER, FLASH, M2 EIPRUS MFG. CO”. Parkerized finish looks nearly new. There is an area of pitting on the corner of the pivoting lock piece, which seems to be under the finish. 

Clip Latch: early round front type, unmarked

Lower Band:2-piece flat top with solid pin

Op Rod: curved side, modified, marked “D35382 9 SA. Exc condition, no pitting, some finish wear from contact. 

Op Rod Catch: late type, unmarked

Bullet Guide: stamped with notch, unmarked

Follower: late type, marked “11”

Follower Arm: no bevel

Follower Rod: long fork, riveted

Bolt: marked “D28287-12SA S-A2<>”

Firing Pin: half round, no chrome tip

Sight Knobs: postwar T105 type, windage marked “DRC”, elevation marked “SSH”

Rear Sight Cover: late type with ribs

Rear Sight Aperture: double track, unmarked 

Trigger Housing: marked “D28290-12-SA” Small pad, cloverleaf hole, excellent condition, no pitting, very little finish wear

Trigger Guard: milled WWII type, unmarked

Trigger: late type, no extra hole

Hammer: marked “C46008-7 SA”

Hammer Spring Plunger: WWII type with wings

Safety: round top, marked “SA 11”

Gas Cylinder: wide sight platform, flat on top of rear ring. Gas cylinder group finish in excellent condition

Front Sight: 0.65 wide, unmarked

Gas Cylinder Lock: beveled front, unmarked

Gas Cylinder Lock Screw: cross slot poppet valve type, marked “NHC”

Stock: walnut, WWII type with trap. Circled “P” on pistol grip, “S. A.” in box, “RA”, all on left side. No cracks, about average dings/gouges except under cheekpad

Cheekpad: leather, excellent used condition, marked “MRT 8-58"

Handguards:walnut, no cracks, about average dings/gouges, color matches stock

Buttplate: square plunger, good condition with worn finish

Sling: appears to be common postwar type

Extras: CMP certificate included, with 2 M1 enbloc clips (no ammo)
