Description:
SOLD...Excellent antique 1889 Marlin. Here is a way above average 1889 Marlin. Has the standard 24" octagon barrel. It is in the best shooting 38-40 caliber. My favorite. Also has the correct tang sight. Low S/N 30370 so probably first month of the second year production. To start with the bore is excellent and near mint. Mirror bright and shiny all the way through. NO rings or bulges. Would be very hard if not impossible to find a better bore in any antique rifle. The mechanics are excellent as well. It feeds, fires and ejects perfectly. Super accurate. The ejector is a little lazy as all the 89's are this way but it kicks out the cases no problem. Both hammer notches are perfect and not broken or worn. The is gun has the original rear sight with the "legs" on the bottom rear and has the original "fish hook" elevator as well. The front sight is a period of use Marbles replacement Number 2 and by looking at it, it may be original. It has a brass bead and it looks like it has been on this gun forever. It has a very tight tang sight also. The staff is tight and not all worn out like most all you will find. All the markings are excellent. The finish is excellent as you can see. The receiver has 50% thinning but bright blue on the left side. The right side has a little less.  The top of the receiver has 40% blue. The barrel has about 30% blue mainly on the bottom flats and a little in other places where protacted. The mag tube has 50% blue. A couple burred screws on the right side of the receiver. I see this on a lot of 89 Marlins for some reason. NO pitting on the metal and it just shows a couple small spots of surface crud but nothing into the metal. Very nice metal and blue on this ole 89. The lever still shows some vivid case colors in the protected areas. The wood is excellent... The forearm has NO splits or cracks and has just afew honest handling dings. May have been lightly cleaned and some varnish added over the years. The butt stock is very nice as well. It has one tiny sliver on the left by the upper tang. {see photo}.. No other splits or cracks and has some minor handling dingd and scratches. ALL the wood fits tight and proud to the metal in some places. It is not all oil soaked and still has great color. This is a very nice 89 Marlin and way better than you will usually find. Much better than the gray-brown ones you see for $1200 to $1400. Plus it has a near mint bore with a good and solid tang sight. I have a very soft spot in my heart for minty bores so if this one does not sell, I don't mind adding it to my personal collection. This gun would fit very nice in a mid to upper rang collection. Don't miss it !!! $50 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos.
