Description:
Old West saddle ca. 1885 with Sam Stagg rigging around horn. This saddle is almost exactly like the one pictured on p. 70 and Fig. 12.5 on p. 71 of “Saddles,” by Russell H. Beatie, a reliable book on old western saddles (Univ of Oklahoma Press 1981). It is a Texas style (square skirts) cowboy saddle with side jockys, rear jocky, 4 leather rosettes on each side with long raw hide tassels, extensive tooled decorations on nearly all parts and all borders, double rigged with cinch straps tied at cinch rings. Missing horse hair cinch. Sam Stagg horn rigging is where leather from seat terminates in straps that wrap around the horn and the end is screwed to the wide plate top of the horn. Really nice old wood stirrups covered in 3 strips of tin or thin sheet iron. Large decorated fenders. Unusual half seat. This saddle has a great old west look. Put it on a saddle stand and will make a nice center piece for western collection or décor. Weight between 50-60 pounds. Will have to ship in a heavy 3 ply box. Shipping $165.00. If my shipping estimate is over the actual cost, I wil refund the excess, but i just shipped a McClellen to MI and it cost $105.00 and it's a lot lighter than this saddle.
