Colt First Model Dragoon Revolver Inscribed “J.B. Chiles” 15-100
 
Condition: Serial #3577. Numbers match on all parts including Frame, Cylinder, Barrel, Back Strap, Trigger guard, Arbor, Wedge .loading lever. Dark Patina on metal, some light corrosion on frame, Address mostly readable, Colts Patent U.S. on frame distinct and clear, works fine mechanically, 3 clicks and locks up tight,., Grips have a few dents, dings etc. But look good. Overall very good condition. This gun has the name “J.B. Chiles” engraved on the bottom of the grip. He was born in Kentucky in 1810, moved to Missouri. He enlisted in the Missouri Volunteer Infantry Regiment was made an Officer and fought in the Florida Indian wars from 1838 until about 1840. He then returned to Missouri and then was one of the original pioneers to go to California in 1841 and again in 1843 & 1848, settling in Napa County Cal. in 1844. Colt First Model Dragoon Revolver. Manufactured 1848 .c 1850 total of about 7,000. 44 caliber 6-shot cylinder 7-1/2” part round, part octagonal barrel. Grips of one piece walnut. Casehardened frame, hammer, and lever; the balance blued. Gripstraps standard of brass. Barred marked: Address SAM COLT, NEW YORK CITY. COLT’S/PATENT on the left side of the frame; often accompanied. Identifying features of the First Model are: Continuation of the square backed trigger guard, the cylinder stop slots oval, and the juncture of grips, gripstraps, and frame forming a straight vertical line. Overall very good condition.
