Brass box locks with “Stand of Flags” engraved cartouches alternately signed “SHERWOOD” and “LONDON” on one pistol and unsigned on the other. Flat bag shaped original finely figured walnut stocks. Nicely articulated cocks with sliding safeties mounted to their rear. Both pistols in excellent condition and work perfectly. The Joseph and James Sherwood were gun makers to the East India Co. as well as domestic gun makers based in Smithfield who signed their guns “LONDON” as did many provincial makers with London sales agents.
