Description:
Not everyone on the frontier had a Colt or Smith and Wesson revolver!  Many of the western settlers bought copies made in Europe which were less expensive and readily available and carried them on their westward migration.  One of the more popular copies was made in Belgium.  This is one of those models we are offering for sale.   This double action revolver is stamped "Frontier Army 44 W.C.F" on the topstrap and was originally nickel plated.  Chambered for the immensely popular 44-40 Winchester Center Fire, getting ammunition was easy at that time and the 44-40 was considered a great man-stopper.  This revolver has had a lot of use.  The majority of the nickel plating is gone and what plating does remain has dulled.  The action still works properly in single action, but only intermittently works properly in double action use.  The gutta percha grips are quite unique and beautiful.  They feature carvings of elephant heads and what looks like dragons.  Amazingly enough, they are still in good shape with no cracks or repairs and they are still nice and tight to the gun.  One look at this gun will tell you that it has seen a lot of history and because of that, it would make a great addition to any historical gun collection or even use as a decorator/conversation piece.  We do not believe this gun is safe to shoot in its current condition.
