MODEL 1841 NAVAL CUTLASS DATED 1845 WITH RARE 1ST TYPE SCABBARD. Only 6000 made and scarce with almost never seen original issue leather scabbard. Only a handful of the scabbards survive. 27” o/a with 21” blade stamped at base “U S N/1845/R” and on the obverse “N. P. AMES” with the “N” and the “S” worn to illegible. “Quillon inspected on the sides “J.L.” and alternately “RC”. Outer guard stamped with rack number “8/3D”. Condition very good plus for one of these with nice umber colored brass and the blade with grey used patina a few edge nicks but much better than the usual of these. Scabbard in fine condition for one of these with all the copper rivets except the tip rivet and small amount of the tip leather. Belt loop in good condition which is very rare and with partially visible “NAVY YARD/NEW YORK/ANCHOR/18--/ANCHOR/C-G”. This appears to be as good or better than any 1st. type scabbard that we have found pictures of. Never on the market and originally found in Hawaii. Mexican War era and still in use in the Civil War.
