Formerly called the "standard" or "4th Model", 43,000 of these were sold to the government and issued from 1863 thru 1865. These .54 caliber percussion breech loading carbines were very popular and are of particular interest to today's collectors due to the identity of their designer, Ambrose E. Burnside, a famous Union general during the Civil War. The cartridge is also unusual, having either a copper casinjg or tapered foil. The Carbine is in good mechanical condition, shows traces of original blue and case hardened finish, and has visible inspector's cartouches on the left wrist of the stock. It is complete, with no parts replaced and the bore is very good. This is an excellent example of one of the most popular Civil War Carbines.
