Description:
PRICE REDUCTION: NEW PRICE $9,950.00. UPDATE: THIS IS UNQUESTIONABLY A CONCARI ACTION. ACTION. AFRICAN BIG GAME RIFLE COLLECTORS AND ENGRAVING AFICIONADOS ATTENTION. UP FOR IS ONE OF THE FINEST MAUSER-TYPE .416 RIGBY RIFLES EVER. THIS “AFRICA” MODEL WAS BUILT BY THE SUPREME ITALIAN RIFLE MAKER CARLO CASARTELLI OF BRESCIA, ITALY, AND FULLY ENGRAVED BY MASTER ENGRAVER MARIO TERZI, CONSIDERED TO BE ONE OF THE FINEST ENGRAVERS IN THE WORLD. THIS IS A MASTERPIECE NOT TO BE EQUALED. IT IS BUILT ON WHAT I BELIEVE IS A CONCARI MAUSER ACTION – THE BEST TO BE HAD – WITH A COST FOR THE ACTION ALONE IN THE WHITE OF MORE THAN $5000. IT IS SUMPTUOUSLY ENGRAVED AND SIGNED BY TERZI WITH AN AFRICAN GAME SCENE AND ELABORATE FOLIATE SCROLLWORK. I AM TOLD THAT TERZI RECEIVES OVER $20,000 TODAY TO ENGRAVE A SINGLE SHOTGUN. FOR THE HUNTER OR COLLECTOR THAT WANTS THE VERY FINEST, THIS IS THE RIFLE FOR YOU! If you haven’t heard of Carlo Casartelli you’re not alone. This is because he hand made a very limited number of double barreled shotguns but especially bolt action and double rifles in his small workshop in Brescia. All were special ordered by customers and all were different….and very expensive. Due to his untimely death, the total number of the guns he produced was very small. But they were of the highest quality. I believe that the Mauser action he used for this piece was provided by Concari Armi although I am not 100% sure. It is Italian proofed. These were one of the finest actions ever made and I believe that when this rifle was built the action alone in the white cost about $5000. Concari provided bolt actions to both the fine Belgian maker Dumoulin and to the Empire Rifle Company in the United States. When Casartelli started this rifle he selected a highly figured piece of European walnut but with not too much graining running through the pistol grip to avoid cracking. He carved a graceful raised cheekpiece on the left side of the stock, beautifully checkered the wrist and forend and installed a red rubber recoil pad at the butt. The forend is tipped with a block of African Cape Buffalo horn. All work is of the highest possible quality. The gun has never been used for hunting and has spent its life in a safe. There might be a tiny handling mark here and there but they are really miniscule. I cannot say for sure but it is possible that it has never been fired because the gentleman who ordered the rifle passed away shortly after it was delivered. The piece has all the features of a fine safari rifle: 1. Flip up express sights. 2. Ramp mounted front sight with flip down protective hood. 3. Barrel mounted sling swivel base. In addition, there is a Swarovski Habicht Nova model 1.5 x 20 mounted with on the receiver in claw mounts with engraved bases. The scope has excellent optics and appears to be little used. Now for the engraving. On page 18 of the 36th edition of the Blue Book Of Gun Values there is a photo of Mario Terzi who the author describes as “one of the world’s greatest engravers”. In addition, there has just been published a massive coffee table book on Terzi featuring over 300 pages of photos of his work. Perhaps this rifle is included in it. If you google: “Mario Terzi - Master Engraver” you will find it. His signature is carved into the engraving. Virtually all of the receiver, floorplate, trigger guard, bolt handle and pistol grip cap (which has a well) are covered with his fine large foliate carving. And to top it off on the bottom of the floorplate is a charging bull elephant. Buyer to pay shipping and insurance costs. FFL required.
