Description:
#4684 Remington No.1 Sporting Rifle, rolling block action, 6XXX serial range (probably early to mid 1870s manufacture) and having the standard 7/8” across the flats medium weight octagon barrel, but being 32” long which is two inches over the longest standard length. Very desirable 45Gov’t caliber (45/70) with VG+ bore and tight smooth action. Matching number under the forestock and also marked “EB” which I think means “elevated base” which would be pertaining to the rear barrel sight. Smooth grey-brown patina on VG metal with VG markings. This old Rolling Block looks to be a typical “buff killer” of that era, and the wood looks very typical of a rifle that had been well-used in that late 1870s profession. It has medium to heavy wear and some dishing of the forestock from carrying across the saddle. VG/VG+ as described. $3250
