#6340, Alex Martin, 20 Exchange Square, Glasgow & at Edinburgh & Aberdeen: A very nice Bar Action Sidelock Ejector 12 Bore Game Gun Made about 1925 with Martin's signature engraving in the "Celtic" pattern, 28" Ejector Chopper Lump Barrels with a rib extension and hidden Third Bite, These are new 1990 Chopper Lump London barrels by barrel maker Bill Blacker, He began in 1976 as an apprentice at Holland & Holland, From 1983 to 1986 he was at Purdey in their barrel shop and then went out on his own, .723 .013 & .020" (Skt.II & Mod.), 2 3/4" chambers, Proved in London at 850 BAR in 1990, The barrels remain as new as they were 26 years ago, Wall thickness on the right and left at .029", Double triggers, Splinter forend with an Anson release, Straight hand stock at 14 13/16 x 1 9/16 x 2 3/8" over a 5/16" checkered wood buttplate, It will go to 15 9/16" with a 1" pad and the wood butt removed, Cast-Off stock for the right hand, Excellent wood with great black/brown contrast, 6 lbs. 11 oz., 99% coverage of original and very nice Celtic engraving, 100% fresh case colors by St. Ledger's, The barrel blue at 100%, The wood has been oiled and is at 98%, The checkering is at 98%, The bores are as new, The barrels ring with a superb chime, It is tight on the face. It is cased in the original leather trunk. Here is one very nice Pre-War Scottish sidelock built in the Golden Era of the modern game gun and now with a super set of barrels by one of the best in all of the London trade. /////////////////////////////////// The Alexander Martin firm began in Paisley in 1837 and later moved to Glasgow. In 1902 they joined with Alexander Henry but both operated under their own names. The firm in modern times was run by Sandy Martin, but in 1965 it was sold to John Dickson & Son Ltd. One of their special guns was the Martin Rib-Less game gun.
