Description:
SOLD...Antique 1889 Marlin. 38-40 with octagon barrel. Here is a very nice and not messed with 1889 Marlin. Has the standard octagon 24" barrel.  Early S/N 31959 and made in early 1890 second year production. The bore is very nice with strong rifling all the way through. Just some very light roughness but no big pits or craters. Just a very fine near excellent bore on this one. The mechanics are excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects just fine. This gun shoots great with my cast bullet hand loads and should shoot factory cowboy action loads just as well. Very accurate and I love this caliber for shooting. Both hammer notches on the hammer are excellent and where they need to be. Nothing worn or broken as most of these 1889 Marlins you will find have worn or broken notches. These are both perfect with NO issues.. All the markings are excellent. The metal is a dark brown patina that has never been cleaned on or messed with. Still retains both original front and rear sights. Still has the original "fish hook" elevator for the rear sight also. The screw heads are also very nice and no all burred up like you see on this model. The wood is excellent. The forearm has NO splits or cracks and still retains most of the original varnish. It does show some minor and honest dings and scratches but has never been sanded or cleaned on and still fits tight and proud to the metal. The butt stock is the same with NO splits or cracks. Still shows most of the original varnish with just the normal and honest dings and scratches. Still fits tight and proud to the metal. Shows just a little oil soaking in the wrist area where it has turned dark from oil and sweat.. The stock and the forearm still have great color. This one is a bit better than the other two that I have sold in this price range but I am pricing it the same as the others. Very reasonable price on this one so don't miss it. This is the last of the larger bore 1889 Marlins with octagon barrel that I have at this time. These 1889 marlins are getting a little harder to find in the not messed with condition that I like to sell. $50 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos.
