#4920 Whitney-Kennedy-Tiesing 1879 lever action rifle, OBFMCB 44WCF with Fine/Ex.Fine bore and early style serpentine lever, C3xx range (c1882-83). These rifles were made between 1879 to 1886 with about 15000 produced, but their very long throw lever made them somewhat hard to operate quickly and popularity was relatively low. Mechanically, this rifle does need a mainspring and the magazine cartridge follower (both missing), a few forearm cap screws …and some better fitting of the forearm. I do have the magazine spring itself, but there are a few dents in the mag tube under the forearm that are causing the spring to stick and also, without the cartridge follower plug in the magazine, the spring gets tangled in the action when cocked. There is considerable good original blue remaining, the strongest mainly being on the receiver and some thinner blue on the barrel. The markings are all VG, the sights are the correct Whitney sights, and the metal is above average for the most part. The buttstock has been lightly sanded and cleaned, and so it would be best to match the forearm with the same treatment (whatever that was). Definitely a rifle that is now becoming very seldom encountered, and one of the last model rifles ever produced by one of Americas earliest (1798) and premier gun makers before the Whitney company finally went in to receivership in 1888. After some minor parts and some cleaning, this will be a VG++ rifle. $1750
