Description:
L.C. Smith Field Grade 20 Gauge Side-by-Side Shotgun
EJECTORS, 30", WOOD!, 90% CASE COLOR

General Specs: LC Smith, Year 1913, 20 Gauge, 6lbs 7oz, SxS
Serial Number: 7242E

Hunter Arms made an astounding 31,000 Field Grade 20ga. guns from 1913 to 1949, mostly without any options.  Only 3,700 of them had ejectors, and only 1,200 (4%) had 30" barrels, so some of the Field Grades are not common at all.  In fact, if only 4% had 30" barrels, it would make sense that only 4% of the 3,700 guns with ejectors were shipped with 30" barrels, meaning only 148 Field guns would have had 30" barrels and ejectors both.  So this gun, sn7242E made in 1913, is actually quite a rare combination in an L.C. Smith Field Grade 20ga.  Several other features that make this gun quite special.  First, it has outstanding wood for a Field Grade.  Most gun lovers are happy to pay a premium to get gorgeous wood.  Second, it has a ton of FACTORY ORIGINAL CONDITION, including 90% strong factory case colors, 98% factory barrel blue, 70% factory trigger guard blue, and most of its factory wood finish.  There are so few small bore vintage American double guns left on the planet with lots of factory condition that the remaining guns that do will continue to demand the highest prices.  Third, this is a very dynamic handling shotgun weighing just 6lbs. 7oz. and balanced like a wand in your hands.  Anyone who has handled more than a few L.C. Smith 20ga. guns understands that many are a little heavy for gauge and lack that special "feel" that you might find in an Ansley H. Fox or fine English made 20 gauge gun.  THIS GUN HAS THAT SPECIAL FEEL IN HAND THAT WILL PUT A SMILE ON YOUR FACE!  So in the world of investment quality vintage shotguns, this fine Elsie will continue to gain value as you enjoy its use.  The vintage shotgun market is now made up of more "shooter/collectors" than "purist collectors" that don't shoot their guns.  A fast handling, 30" 20 bore with ejectors is a highly desirable gun, and one with this much condition is an awesome find!

If you want the wood to look like new with a hand rubbed oil finish add $400 to the cost of the gun and we will have it done for you within 6 weeks of purchase.  The forend has a hairline split on the left and right side from the forend screws that we will repair this week before we sell the gun.  They are common and easy to fix.  Checkering is excellent throughout. Thanks for checking us out.
