- Note: This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of law enforcement history. This 1894 saddle ring carbine, manufactured in 1917, was purchased by the Los Angeles Police Department. The buttstock of this carbine is stamped "163" over "LA. P.D." Likewise, the top of the heel, just above the buttplate, is a brass inset with the number "18". We surmise that this represents the devision where the gun was assigned. At the time of manufacture, obviously LA Police Department did not have 18 divisions, but by the 1970's or so, when these guns may have come out of inventory, there were as many as 19 divisions, which is how many LA.P.D. has today. The gun is in very crisp condition, showing very minor handling wear. It is fitted with what appears to be a facotry barrelband swivel modification with matching buttstock swivel. Bore is bright with strong lands and grooves. The only provenance we have with this gun is that it came from a collector who had lived in Los Angeles and had purchased from us the LA Sheriff equivelant 1894 and the LA Sheriff model 81 Remington. His statement to us was that he purchased this from an LA. P.D. officer who had acquired it when the department released the guns.
