Description:
NSN, .50-70, 36” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This model, one of 1,008 made, is the precursor to the Model 1871 and features the short hammer spur and lack of the “locking action” that dropped the hammer to half-cock when the breechblock was shut. The barrel and furniture are finished armory bright and still have a fairly bright patina with scattered specks of surface freckling and some minor handling marks and blemishes. The frame still has slightly muted color case-hardening toning to gray, especially along the edges and projections. The walnut forend and buttstock have numerous small surface blemishes and handling marks scattered about the original military oil finish. The “ESA” cartouche is still crisp and there is some heavier pitting on the steel buttplate, most noticeably at the heel. The rifle comes with its correct, single stop ramrod and is in fine overall condition; a nice example of a hard to find U.S. military Rolling Block. Antique
