Description:
Serial #S95648, .38 Special, 5” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a fabulous five-screw revolver, made in the mid-1950s, that has matching numbers on the frame, barrel, cylinder, yoke, and extractor and retains 97-98% plus of the original nickel finish with only a light turn-ring on the rear of the cylinder, as well as a handful of negligible hairline scratches and minor handling marks scattered about. The trigger and hammer retain 85-90% of the original color case-hardening with the edges faded to a pewter gray patina. The S&W Magna grips are numbered to the gun on the interior and are in very good plus shape with some visible wear and flattening of the points at the butt. The lock-up is tight and the action functions flawlessly. The revolver is marked on the backstrap with a police issue number: “T.T.P. 41”. According to the accompanying Smith & Wesson letter, this revolver was shipped on February 14, 1954 to Weed & Co. of Buffalo, NY. Due to the shipping location, “T.T.P.” is most likely the Town of Tonawanda Police. This is a great police marked N-frame S&W in fine-near excellent condition and would make a wonderful addition to any collection. FFL or C&R
