Description:
Serial #260e, 9mm Para., 4” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a 1916 dated pistol that has all matching numbers (including the grip panels) and 97-98% of the original blue finish remaining on the metal. There is some very mild silvering at the muzzle as well as along a few of the high edges and bearing surfaces of the toggle, but these are negligible. The small parts retain about 80-85% of the original straw color with the balance faded to a dull pewter gray patina, mainly on the sides of the trigger, and there is a small and unobtrusive import stamp on the underside of the barrel. The checkered wooden grips are in very good shape with only light flattening of the points on either side as well as a small chip missing from the left panel just beneath the safety. The unit marking reads, "267.R.4.31." which indicates issue as pistol no.31, 267th Reserve Infantry Regiment, Company 4 (the 267th was part of the 81st Reserve Inf. Bde., 81st Reserve Inf. Div., XXXXI Reserve Inf. Corps). The pistol comes with two non-matching wood base magazines and is housed in an original brown leather flap holster with a Freiberg maker's mark on the inside lip. The leather is lightly crazed but still supple and intact with an ink-stamped “64.A” marking inside the cover flap and an unmarked take-down tool. Additionally, there is a written inscription in English on the back of the holster between the belt loops evidently added by a past owner: “FIELD MARSHAL/BOMB MARSHALL/1ST INDIA/REG”. Handwritten, German-style numerals near the tip of the holster read, "9281/36". This is a really nice World War I Luger in excellent condition that would make a terrific addition to any collection.
