Description:
This is a very handsome, Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Co.-made sword, very reminiscent of British military patterns, and measures 39 1/4" overall with a 33 1/2" straight, single-edged blade with etched forte and narrow double fullers. The steel has a bright original polish with some scattered specks of darker freckling along the length of the blade on both sides, and some further gray-brown freckling within the etched panels. The obverse panel has a presentation in Fraktur script: “Max Walter s./l. Hch. B. Rohr/Aspirantenschule 1912", while the reverse has the Swiss cross in sunburst. The WKC “knight's head" logo is etched onto the ricasso obverse. The hilt has a narrow pierced guard with single forward swept quillon, the shagreen grip is in fine shape with some minor wear, an intact braided wire wrap, and the leather finger loop is heavily flaked but still intact. An original embroidered bullion wire and red morocco portepee is also present. The nickel scabbard is in fine shape with scattered minor handling marks along the surface and a shallow dent just above the drag. The sword comes complete with original chaint type hanger with spring clip. This is a seldom seen sword in the U.S. and is in excellent condition overall.
