Description: This is a very handsome sword, very reminiscent of British military patterns, and measures 37 1/2" overall with a 31 7/8" straight, single-edged blade with etched forte and narrow central fullers. The steel has a bright original polish with some scattered specks of darker freckling along the length of the blade on both sides, and some further gray-brown freckling within the etched panels. The obverse panel has a New Year's presentation in Fraktur script: “C. Juchli s./l. J. Kunzler/Neujahr 1912", while the reverse has the Swiss cross in sunburst. The maker name is etched onto the ricasso obverse: “SCHWEIZER/UNIFORMENFABRIK/BERN-ZURICH". The hilt has a narrow pierced guard with single forward swept quillon, the shagreen grip is in fine shape with an intact braided wire wrap, and the leather finger loop is heavily flaked but still intact. An original embroidered bullion portepee is also present. The nickel scabbard is in fine shape with the nickel finish applied over the slightly rough surface and some mild finish loss just above the drag. This is a seldom seen sword in the U.S. and is in excellent condition overall. SOLD Manufacturer: Swiss Model: Sword |
