Description:
SOLD. 1842 Springfield Musket cut down to A two band Musketoon. Barrel is 34 inches long. Total length is 50 inches.  Wood is in great condition for a gun that saw service during the Mexican American War and the Civil War. Some dings and a couple of chips but no cracks.  Action works in half cock and cock position. Untouched patina nice smooth battleship grey color. No pitting except from lots of firing around the bolster. 1845 Marked Springfield Lock Plate. US on the top of the butt plate. No other markings visible. Proper ram rod. Very well possibly Arsenal done cut down. Could have been used by either side. The Confederates used every weapon they could get their hands on. Cutting down old muskets for Artillery or Cavalry use was common.  Over all very nice Civil War Musketoon in very good condition for an affordable price.
