Description:
British Enfield No.4 Mk.I Sniper Rifle, this rifle was manufactured by STEVENS Arms at its Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts plant and is dated 1942, serial #10 C 2861, with matching bolt, cal. 303 British. The top of the receiver is stamped ENGLAND, I believe this is one of the rifle brought in by Val Forgett, Jr., who stamped them this way and owned MA Hunter / Service Armament Co. back around 1958-61 and now named Navy Arms Co.  This rifle has a 25" barrel with an excellent bright bore, this is a U.S. made rifle having 95%+ of an armory matte black finish, this rifle has No. 4 (T) scope pads added to the receiver and are correct as pictured in Skennertons book The British Sniper Rifle on page 246.  The wooden stock and hand-guard have been lightly sanded but still have the correct "S51" (Holland & Holland) stamped sniper marked buttstock along with the correct cheek-piece, there’s also a small ding in the wood that caused a 1 ¾” crack on the right side on the stock just behind the sling band and a few cracks in the buttstock at the heel see photos. While reading Skennerton’s book he also notes that some of these rifles were reportedly issued to marksmen during the troubles in Rhodesia, overall this rifle with its correct sniper components is in very good plus condition.
