WINCHESTER 1886 33 WIN. CAL CUSTOM SPORTING TAKEDOWN RIFLE – UNIQUE, GORGEOUS. A MUST SEE!
This is a one of a kind custom built Winchester model 1886 33 CAL sporting rifle. It is simply stunning and obviously cost a fortune to create. The donor rifle was obviously a pistol grip takedown which meant it was more than likely a deluxe or semi deluxe model when it left the factory. It has very beautiful fancy custom created walnut furniture with a Monte Carlo Cheekpiece and a premium Weatherby recoil pad. The fancy oversize front end ( probably built for a man with large hands)is inlaid with 14K solid gold on ebony. The pistol grip has a Weatherby style diamond Ebony inlay as well. It has a clean period Williams receiver peep sight and an ivory bead front sight. The bore is fine bright and minty sharp. The brownish reddish hue of the barrel blue is due to the use of high strength nickel steel for improved smokeless powders deleloped just before the turn of the century . There are some improvements that can easily and VERY inexpensively be made to this particular Winchester that will make it change from a deer and elk hunter to be able to bring down the very largest Grizzly or Kodiak bears on Earth! I already own two such Winchesters. One is a .450 ALASKAN and the other is a .450 ACKLEY IMPROVED. Both have striking power similar to that of the .458 Winchester Win Mag – close to 5,000 ft lbs / energy! These ‘bad boy’ lever actions – when properly padded – are 100% safe and surprisingly manageable. These conversions are common knowledge in Alaska. The list of modifications by a simple re-chambering and re-boring are almost limitless. Here are few examples of what can be done economically by a competent gunsmith. .33 Win to 33 Win Improved ( no rebore) - .33 Win to .348 - .33 Win to Ackely 348 Imp. - .33 Win to .35-348 Ackley Improved - .33 Win to 40 – 348 Ackley improved – Some of these improvements could near double the value of the rifle.
